We’ve seen Auckland’s ferocious cafe scene whittled down to a Top 50, or even Top 10, with factors such as a delicious, sophisticated menu paired with excellent coffee make all the difference.
But what about the best cafes for our littlest critics? Sometimes the slightly more fancy, city-slicker places just aren’t the best spots to bring the kids (who, let’s face it, don’t always appreciate finer flavours).
We’ve come up with some of our favourite spots that, in our humble opinion, serve the best hot chocolates in town.
Kid-friendly, with the roastery right next to you, Atomic coffee is a great cafe for the whole family. With high ceilings, a sleek, modern design and delicious coffee, freshly roasted the Kingsland local is a firm favourite. Their coffee is great (Mum and Dad, take notes), but their hot chocolates are just as good – always served with a smile and a side of the all-important marshmallows. For the youngest in the family, their fluffies come for free.
The secret’s out – Sandringham’s neighbourhood favourite, Petit Bocal (Little Jar in French) does have the most kid-friendly latte art in town. Their hot chocolates will be sure to please with different and exciting latte art (dogs, cats, giraffes…you name it, they can create it!).
For the youngest unicorn fans in your family, Dear Jervois will not disappoint. Their specialty hot chocolates come served as a mini unicorn, complete with brightly coloured sprinkles and a marshmallow horn. The Herne Bay cafe will be sure to wow the whole family, adn receive two thumbs up.
Tucked away in Parnell, Rosie offers an unusual twist to the classic hot chocolate: a deconstructed version where you can pour in the rich chocolate into the frothed milk yourself. This is a perfect option for kids who maybe need a little less sugar in their lives and a little more milk.
