When choosing childcare for your child/ren what are your priorities? Is it location? Atmosphere? ERO report? Cost? Reputation?
Soooo many factors came into our first daycare choice. I went back to work when my first born was ten months old. With teaching as my background, I was quite particular about the way a place was run and what the teachers did.
With all of the above priorities that were on my list and an extra expectation to see teachers in action doing what I deemed best practice, it made it extremely difficult to choose.
We looked at many places; the ‘homely’ ones that had been around for a long time and the modern new builds. In the end, we went with one that had a convenient location on the way to work, with food provided and gentle and nurturing staff.
All three of our children have ended up
My advice is ALWAYS to check out a centre before you commit and get a feel for the place. Your gut will tell you. Look at how the teachers are interacting with the children and how happy they are working at that centre. The best we would want for our kids is to be guided and supported for their individual needs and have their curiosity led.
